Department of "Electricity and Renewable Energy Sources" in accordance with the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2004 "On improving the system of training highly qualified personnel for agriculture and water management" No 415 dated 13.09.2004 Tashkent Irrigation and Land Reclamation organized in the execution of the organizational structure of the institute. The department was first separated from the department of "Electric drives and the use of electricity" on December 15, 1979 under the name "The use of electricity in agriculture." According to the decision of the Academic Council of the Institute, on June 5, 2001 it was renamed "Electrotechnology" and "Operation and maintenance of electrical equipment." From the day of its establishment to 2004, the department was headed by Professor A.R Radjabov. From 2004 to 2011, Associate Professor A.S. Berdishev was the head of the department. Members of the department have been actively involved in the scientific and educational activities of the faculty. Professors Radjabov A.R, Ismoilov M.I. Muxammadiev A.M., Musabekov N.M., Muratov Kh.M. They have successfully defended their doctoral dissertations, each of which has established its own scientific school. In the same years, the following scientists, Ph.D. prepared and defended his dissertation; M.M. Egamberdiev, I.D. Toshev, I.N. Belokovskiy, M.I. Ibragimov, Sh.M. Muzafarov, A.D.Raxmatov, T.M. Bayzakov, N.T. Toshpoʼlotov, B.Sh. Fayzullaev, A.J. Isoqov, O.T. Akhmedov, A.Bakiev, I. Nuritov, D.Raxmatov, Abdulla Said Marshed, Rabbabax A., May Van Xuan. They are currently working in various institutions and organizations of the Republic.

Since the establishment of the department, the scientific school on "Application of electrotechnological methods in the drying, processing and storage of agricultural products" is still one of the potential areas in the country. At the end of 2010, Primov Odil successfully defended his dissertation and is currently working at the Bukhara branch of the Institute. During the 2020-2021 academic year, Muzafarov Sh.M. and D.B. The Kadyrovs received the title of Professor and associate professor.

According to the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 25, 2017 No PP-3003, the department was renamed "Power supply and use of electrical equipment in water management" to "Power supply and renewable energy sources."
