The department was founded in 1934 and its initial title was "Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics". The first department chair was G.E. Baev and he worked as department chair until 1958. In 1962 on the basis of the department there have been organized two separate departments "Electric Drive and Automatics" and "Electromechanical Theory". The first Chair of the Electromechanical Theory department was I.A Reinike, Ph.D. Associate Professor, and after him the Department headed by senior teacher A.Shishkin until 1968, and then in 1968 -1973 headed by A.Mamadshaxov, in 1973 -1983 Professor S.Majidov, in 1983 till 1993 the department was led by the Honoured Science Worker of Boskordistan Professor Madiyar F. Zaripov. Under his leadership, a large research team was created in the field of information and measuring technology and automation, highly qualified specialists were trained who still working and doing research in the Russian Federation, Germany, Uzbekistan, the CIS countries, Ethiopia, Togo and other countries. Under the his supervision over 20 Doctor of sciences and more than 100 PhD dissertation defended. During this period, the potential of the department reached its peak and worked Professor S.M. Majidov, Associate professors Sh.Sh. Zohidov, N.G. Jabbarov, U.Yu. Kazakbaev, Yu.G.Korobko, M.S.Yakubov, O.Turabov, Senior teachers A.H.Gaziyev, S.Kh.Aliyeva, M.N. Zokirova, Assistant professors S.F. Amirov, A.Khakimov, K.Tulakhodjaev, N.U.Mallin, R.J. Baratov, post-graduate students Bayor Sibiriy, Zeneb Tasfaye, G.Khachaturiyan, A.Denmuhammadiev, D.Kontar and others. Professor S.F.Amirov headed the Department in 1993 - 2004, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electric Drive was organized and led by Associate Professor A. Isakov. In 2012 - 2016, the department was headed by Ph.D. AA.Bojiev. In 2016 - 2017 years, Ph.D., Associate Professor AM Denmukhammadiev. As a result of significant structural changes, the faculty "Electrotechnics and mechatronics" was organized in the institute in June 2017 as part of the newly formed faculty "Electrification and automation of agriculture and water resources". Beginning in June 2017, the department was headed by Ph.D., associate professor R.Zh.Baratov. During this short period, the Department of Biology, 5313200 - "Technical Expertise and Marketing of Engineering and Technology" (Electrical and Electronic Equipment), and from the current academic year, students have been admitted to the first year since the 2017-2018 academic year. The curriculum of the new direction was developed taking into account the curricula of the leading universities of the USA, Germany, Great Britain and Japan and supplemented with new disciplines (subjects).
